Dear Ms. Davidow,
My name is Mohammed Ajmain Mahafuj, and I am writing to introduce myself to you. I am currently a junior attending The City College of New York. I have an undecided major, but I am interested in the fields of Computer Science and Business Administration. I would like to let you know beforehand that my interests in college have no direct correlation to that of my personal goals and interests.
My place of birth was in Dhaka, Bangladesh in November of 2004. I arrived in the United of States of America during late 2005, when I was 13 months old with my mother and father. I was raised in Queens, New York my whole life. I speak two languages; English and Bengali, proficiently.
The first reason why I chose to study at The City College of New York is because of the vast engineering and business fields I can choose from, if Computer Science or Business Administration do not work out. The second reason I chose to study at this campus is because many of my childhood and high school friends are attending the same college. I can possibly meet them while I complete my studies. I am also interested in learning about philosophy and learning new languages to visit countries. Some languages I am highly interested in are Arabic, Chinese, Greek, French, Italian, Japanese, and lastly Spanish. Fortunately, The City College of New York offers all those language programs that were previously mentioned.
A meaningful experience that had had a major impact on me was climbing up a very steep hill with my bike around Holliswood, Queens, the area where I currently reside with my family. I was riding by myself to get my body in shape, and I wanted to challenge myself by putting my body on the line. The closest and steepest hill with minimal traffic happened to be located on what I call, “The Palo Alto”. It was about a 400 feet climb. I think it would have been easier if I was riding a road bike, rather than a track bike with no brakes and not being able to stop willingly unless I backpedal. After passing about 50 feet, I wanted to give up and go back home, but I decided to keep climbing the hill, because I felt a sense of joy and thrill with putting my body on the line. I was able to clear the hill within three minutes, being exhausted and thirsty for water. Even though that was the state I was in, it was an eye-opener for me in which anything and everything is possible if something is on the line. With this eye-opener of an experience, I want to push my limits for anything, because everything has something on the line. This single meaningful experience is also what developed a dream for me to accomplish.
That single dream that I want to accomplish is to be at the top of whatever I am passionate about, Whether that is competing in cycling races, mixed-martial arts matches, or even chess tournaments, I want people to know that I am going to be the best at whatever it is I am doing. As I make my way to the top, I want to find a rival that is willing to put their everything; dreams, pride, and honor on the line alongside me, to be at the top. My dream may seem childish and cringe, but that journey to the top will absolutely bring me a joyous and thrilling life. This dream of mine is why I previously mentioned that my interest in college has no direct correlation to my personal goals and interests.
That is all for my letter or introduction. I hope you found me to be an interesting person through my background, college interest, my own meaningful experience, and lastly my dream. I also hope you did not find me childish from my dream. I hope to I have an enjoyable semester with you as my professor
Sincerely,
Mohammed Ajmain Mahafuj
